museums in bali

Many museums available in Bali , for art and craft, paintings, wood carving and many more.

The Abian Kapas Arts Centre

Located on Jalan Nusa Indah, east of Denpasar, tel.             (0361) 227176      , where modern paintings and woodcarvings exhibited in a large complex of building together with beautiful dancing stage, shops, restaurant and some other facilities. Open from 8am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday. Bali Art Festival are held every year in June and July. Dances are held regularly and there will be temporary exhibition during the festival.

Agung Rai Museum of Arts (ARMA)
Located at Jalan Pengosekan, south east of central Ubud, tel.             (0361) 976659      . Open daily 8am – 6pm. Collections and exhibition extends for room after room and covers the full range of Balinese style paintings and some works by western and Javanese artists.

Antonio Blanco Museum
Located just beside the Campuhan suspension bridge, Ubud, tel.             (0361) 975502      . Blanco’s speciality is erotic art of painting and he is a master of the self portrait.

Archeological museum
Tel.             (0361) 942352      . Open from 8am to 3pm weekdays. Situated east of Bedulu, on the main road to Kintamani, at Pejeng village. A variety of jewellery and ornaments, utensils, tools and implements dating from stone and bronze age are exhibited here.

Gedong Kirtya Historical Library
Tel.(0362) 25141. The only one museum in the north of Bali , Buleleng. Located at Jalan Veteran, Singaraja. Open 7am – 3pm Monday – Thursday, until Fridaynoon, closed on weekend. This museum is recommended for those are interested in Balinese history and have some knowledge of Dutch. It has some 3000 old manuscripts written on leaves of the lontar palm and diaries, newspapers and periodicals dating from the period of Dutch occupation.

Museum Bali
Located in the hearth of the capital city of Bali , Jalan Letkol Wisnu, Denpasar. Tel            (0361) 235059      . Open daily (except Monday) from 8am to 5pm and closes 2 hours earlier on Friday. There are series of separate building where both modern and old paintings, arts and crafts, tools and various items of everyday use, and also some exellent examples of double ikat weaving.

Museum Manusa Yadnya
Aat Mengwi, open daily but often unattended. There are two buildings with pictures nd models illustrating the manusa yadnya ceremonies.

Museum Neka 
Tel             (0361) 975074      , situated at Jalan Raya Campuhan Ubud, open daily 9am – 5pm. It is highly recommended to those interested in the development of painting in Bali . The museum, openend 1982, is consist of number of separate building set in a beautiful garden.

Museum Puri Lukisan
Tel.(0361) 975136, located at Jalan Raya Ubud, Ubud. Open daily 8am – 4pm. There are excellent arts or fine arts exhibited in several building with beautiful garden, pools, statues and fountain.

Museum Subak
Tel. 810315 located at Jalan Raya Kediri, desa Sanggulan, Tabanan. Open from 8am – 2pm, Monday – Thursday, closing at 11am on Friday and 12.30pm on Saturday. Best place to know the irrigation and cultivation of rice in Bali .
